The Plaza Cinema, Crosby Road North, is a beautiful Art Deco building and local landmark located a few minutes walk from Waterloo train station.
The cinema first opened in 1939, and was brought back to life following a campaign by a local 12 year old schoolboy in 1995. The Plaza reopened on 18th July 1997 with Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Nearly 30 years later it is still going strong, run by over 60 volunteers and loved by the local community.
As well as showing the latest releases, the Plaza hosts a number of community events and specialised features at affordable prices, with a range of retro refreshments and traditional movie snacks available.

BANFF Film Festival
The Plaza welcomes back the BANFF Film Festival for the 2nd time in 2026 to screen their Blue Programme on Friday 15th May.

Retro film screenings of well loved films from the 1980’s supported by DJ Nick Gartland, to set the mood before each screening.

Volunteering
The Plaza is always on the lookout for new volunteers, who can give a few hours a week to contribute
to the day to day running of the cinema, from ushering to kiosk to box office!
